Two policemen killed in town crisis In Niger State...
TWO policemen have been killed in a clash that broke out between members of a vigilance group and the police in Allawa town in the Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.
The victims , Inspector Alfa Idris and Sergeant Joseph Peter , were killed when they went to the town to arrest some suspects in connection with the alleged abduction of people in a mosque .
It was learnt that members of the vigilance group , headed by one Kwali , had been declared wanted by the Niger and Kaduna states police commands over the abduction .
Our correspondent gathered that Idris and Peter were told to head a five- man team to arrest the suspects .
Men of the vigilance group reportedly attacked the team , resulting in the death of the two cops.
A source said , “Idris was initially taken to a hospital in Kagara , but some soldiers stormed the hospital and arrested five policemen , leaving Idris to bleed to death . ”
The state Police Public Relations Officer , Bala Elkana , on Monday said , “The Nigerian Army authorities in Minna released the policemen .”
